Title:
Knowledge, Attitudes, and Perceptions of FKNMS Commercial Fishers
Abstract:
A total of 294 commercial fishers, randomly selected from a population possessing an active Florida Saltwater Products license, provided information on their fishing activities within and outside the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, including their use around the no-take zones within the Sanctuary. The fishers also provided socio-demographic, economic, and perceptions data, which served to compare their performance in and views concerning the Sanctuary and its regulations.

Why was the data set created?

The purpose of the Knowledge, Attitudes, and Perceptions (KAP) replication study of commercial fishers, as well as that of dive operators and environmental group members, was to determine whether there have been any changes in the views of these stakeholder groups on the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and its management strategies, especially as related to the zoning action plan that implemented several no-take zones in the Florida Keys.
