Abstract:

An aerial survey between Ft Pierce and Key West Florida was performed aboard US Coast Guard helicopters and fixed wing aircraft from September 1992 through March 2004. Point in time occurrences of vessels and marine animals in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, Biscayne National Park (BNP), Pennekamp State Park, and Oculina Bank HAPC are documented during 211 surveys. A data logger system has been developed to accurately geo-position vessel occurrences. Regression equations are computed to compare trailer counts at marinas and vessel usage in BNP.

Purpose:

To document vessel usage (fishing effort), marine animal occurrences, MPA usage and 'fish the line' effects, and BNP trailer counts/vessel regression equations.
