Abstract:
This project is a cooperative effort between the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, National Park Service, U.S. Geological Survey, NOVA Southeastern University, the University of Miami, and the NOAA National Ocean Services National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, and Special Projects Office. One-meter panchromatic and four-meter multispectral color IKONOS commercial satellite imagery was purchased to support the National Ocean Service, Coral Reef Conservation Programs coral mapping activities in southern Florida.
Purpose:
The National Ocean Service is producing a digital map of the shallow-water (generally less than 30 m) seafloor habitats of southern Florida to support the long-term conservation and management. The mapping effort is coordinated with a long-term monitoring program to assess changes in southern Floridas shallow-water coral ecosystems, including biological communities, over time.
