These data are intended for science researchers, students, policy makers, and the general public. The data can be used with geographic information systems (GIS) or other software to display bathymetry data of the West Florida Shelf, Gulf of Mexico.
No tidal correction was made to the data. The instruments involved are capable of a z position accuracy of 2cm and heave accuracy of 5% or 5cm.
The data crossing over a previous NOAA multibeam survey matched at 99% of total depth. Lead weight harbor verifications were done in both Key West and Pascagoula matching within 5 cm.
Point features present. Similar scarps and bioherms were observed with the new data as was visible in the previous data collected by NOAA in a systematic survey along the slope of the west shelf of Florida in depths ranging from 300 to 700 meters.
