Abstract:
The NOAA Fisheries Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center (PIFSC) is responsible for routinely assessing the stock status of the Deep 7, and they have developed the Bottomfish Fishery-Independent Survey in Hawaiʻi (BFISH). BFISH data have been used to calculate a design-based index of absolute abundance for the Deep 7. In order to address concerns with the uncertainty in the area-swept assumptions used to calibrate the scale of the absolute index, a model-based index of relative abundance was developed.
