The 2005 edition's National Summary chapter includes a section on improving the use of marine protected areas in coral reef ecosystems, which discusses types of MPAs, marine zoning to manage human impacts, no-take areas, the Marine Managed Areas Inventory, the development of a national system of MPAs, and the role of the National MPA Center, its Federal Advisory Committee, and the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force, in MPA issues.
Abstract:
This bienniel report on the condition of U.S. coral reefs is intended to provide the scientific baseline for subsequent reports on the health of U.S. coral reef ecosystems that are used by NOAA to evaluate the efficacy of coral reef conservation and management practices.
