"The 45 minute webcast interview conducted by the American Museum of Natural Historys (AMNH) senior science producer Laura Allen, on May 8, 2014 with Mark Eakin, coordinator of NOAA's Coral Reef Watch program, and Ruben van Hooidonk with NOAA's Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory and the University of Miami. They discuss the 3:50-minute visualization they were involved with produced by the American Museum of Natural History Science Bulletin on April 9, 2014. To view the data visualization referenced in the Hangout visit the Science Bulletins website: http://www.amnh.org/explore/science-bulletins/(watch)/bio/visualizations/warm-forecast-for-coral-reefs. Record-setting global temperatures are increasingly stressing corals, leading to weakness and even death for these sensitive species. While some corals may be able to adjust to some level of heat stress over time, our actions to reduce emissions will largely determine how reefs fare in a climate increasingly inhospitable to their survival. This webcast is not 508 compliant; the audio does not contain open/close captioning for the hearing impaired."
