Abstract:
The purpose of this report is to summarize damages observed in November at NOAA-funded restoration sites in Guánica and Culebra caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September of 2017. Eight project sites were evaluated in Culebra, specifically in Punta del Viento, Zoní, Punta Soldado, Aeropuerto, Fulladosa, Townsite, Puerto Manglar, and Tamarindo with a two-phase project. Several sites were evaluated in the upper Guanica Bay watershed as well. Projects completed in these areas included the stabilization of a dirt road network, stormwater practices, among others. All of these projects have utilized green infrastructure practices to intercept stormwater runoff and utilize plants, soils, and natural processes to filter and reduce runoff pollution. This report includes a brief summary of pre and post-hurricane conditions (Section 3), as well as estimated repair costs (Section 4).
