Abstract:
"This Wahikuli-Honokowai Wildfire Mitigation Plan was written to provide resource managers and landowners with a comprehensive wildfire readiness plan. It provides an overview of pre-fire hazard reduction recommendations and outlines the preparation needed to ensure a strong during-fire and post-fire response. Table 1 in this publication details the categories of activities that can be implemented to reduce wildfire occurrence and minimize fire impacts. The scope of activities that is necessary for a comprehensive fire protection plan is heavily weighted toward prevention and risk reduction. It is well documented that the costs of implementing pre-fire mitigation activities are much less than the costs of suppressing fires, preventing post-fire erosion, and rehabilitating lands after fire. They also avoid fire-caused damage to the landscape in the first place rather than trying to repair damage caused by unmitigated wildfires without a pre-defined fire management plan or adequate resources."
