Project Summary:
The NCRMP Benthics section of the NCRMP Atlantic jurisdictions' status reports may be one of the first, if not the first effort, that has tried to objectively "score" an ecosystem. i.e., we know that coral cover has declined. But we have never attempted an actual analysis before to say the ecosystem is approximately 69% of what it once was in 1999-2005, for example. A peer-reviewed publication will provide scientific merit to support the analytic approach. Expected Outcome:
The publication is intended to provide guidance to scientists and managers for developing status reports in the real-world scenario of shifting baselines and multiple data types.
