Abstract:
Saipan's beautiful fringing and barrier coral reefs are scattered along the 68 km coastline. The economic importance of this ecosystem is significant. Besides providing food, shelter and cultural significance for the citizens on Saipan, the coral reefs generate revenue from tourists and recreational users attracted by the beauty of the coral and its inhabitants. The main objective of the study was to carry out an economic valuation of the coral reefs and associated resources on Saipan. The results of the study were derived through five major research methodologies: 1. Household survey 2. Discrete choice experiment 3. Total Economic Value Calculation 4. Spatial analysis 5. Sustainable financing"--Executive summary.
