Project Summary:
This project was specifically request by the jurisdiction in the priorities document ("Develop a water quality sampling plan for major ghuts in the USVI with recommendations on how to incorporate or add this sampling plan to existing Division of Environmental Protection water quality monitoring program" and the need for this was further articulated during discussions between NCCOS and DPNR. The objectives of the project are three fold:1) Reach a consensus on a scientifically robust, feasibly executable water quality monitoring plan for the major ghuts of the USVI.2) Execute the monitoring plan in two priority areas as a proof of concept (pilot project).3) Based on the pilot project, adjust the monitoring plan (if necessary) to maximize its utility and ease of execution. This will be a collaborative project that will seek input from DPNR, DEP, DPW, academia and NGOs (among others).
Expected Outcome:
The project will result in a monitoring plan document that can be used by the territory for future execution of water quality monitoring. Additionally, the project team will implement the monitoring plan on a trial bases at two pilot sites.
