CREWS Standard (CREWS-STD) buoys are equipped to measure sea surface water temperature and conductivity (Sea-Bird Model SBE37-SM, Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc., www.seabird.com) at 1 m (nominal) below the water line and air temperature (R.M Young Model 41342); barometric pressure (Heise DXD and wind vectors (Vaisala WAS425A) at 2 m (nominal) above the water line. A compass (KVH C100 SE-25) is used in the calculation of wind direction and a GPS system provides geolocation. This metadata record refers to a supplemental sea surface temperature recorder (Sea-Bird Model SBE39, Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc., www.seabird.com) mounted on the CREWS buoy subsurface arm. When a CREWS buoy is recovered, another one is typically deployed in the same place. Time series data combining multiple deployments from a given site may also be available. Monitoring of oceanographic and meteorological conditions provides information about environmental factors influencing coral reef ecosystems.
Platform Manufacturer: Sound Ocean Systems, Inc. (SOSI), Platform Model: CREWS-STD, Platform Serial Number: 262002; Instrument Manufacturer: Sea-Bird Electronics, Inc., Instrument Model: SBE 39 Temperature Recorder, Instrument Serial Number: 39292520900. This record refers to two (2) data files that have the same name as this metadata file. The file with extension .ASC is the raw data uploaded from the instrument, including header information. Files with extension .CDP (CRED Data Product) have had the header information, pre and post deployment data removed and a preliminary quality control conducted by plotting and reviewing the recorded data and removing obviously erroneous records. Each row corresponds to a data record. Data within the .CDP file is supplied in columnar ASCII format: Column01: Year (UTC), Column02: Month (UTC), Column03: Day (UTC), Column04: Hour (UTC), Column05: Minute (UTC), Column06: Second (UTC), Column07: Temperature (Degrees Celsius). Instrument Specifications: Temperature (Degrees Celsius): Measurement Range -5 to 35; Initial Accuracy +/-0.002, Typical Stability 0.0002 per month, Resolution 0.0001. Clock Accuracy: 5 seconds per month.. Resource Description: CRS262002_SBE39292520900_20060907.cdp
