Abstract:
This collection of digital photographs was generated by observations conducted during leg 2 of the NOAA Ocean Exploration Program expedition, "Islands in the Stream 2002: Exploring Underwater Oases," conducted from Aug. 5-Aug. 15, 2002. The mission focused on exploration of outer shelf and slope habitats off the coast of North Carolina in order to characterize those habitats' respective biotic communities. Expedition staff are affiliated with NOAA and the North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve. They used the R/V Seward Johnson and the Johnson-Sea-Link II submersible for underwater access to conduct the observations reflected herein.
