Abstract:
Describes 13 coastal coral reef management initiatives operated under the ICRAN framework, including case studies from the Wider Caribbean Region, the Eastern African Region, the East Asian Seas Region, and the South Pacific Region. Case studies highlight threats to coral reefs, management challenges, and lessons learned. Marine protected areas are emphasized as one of the most useful management strategies for local communities and institutions at all levels for protection of reef ecosystems and sustainable management of coastal and marine resources.
