Coral Restoration Capacity Building in American Samoa

Project Summary:
The purpose of this project is to support coral restoration efforts in American Samoa to meet the priorities stated in the American Samoa Restoration Plan. This includes continued support to maintain and expand the AS coral nursery and continue evaluation of the different coral nursery designs and coral species to determine the appropriate next steps to build restoration capacity. This project will include support to develop a database for nursery corals, evaluation of nursery success, assistance with outplanting, and evaluation of techniques for sexual propagation or assisted adaptation.
Expected Outcome:
This project will support the maintenance and expansion of nursery and restoration efforts in support of the AS Restoration Plan. This project will include the maintenance of the nurseries in Aua, evaluation of coral survival, status and growth in the nursery, and a report on the nursery performance and recommendations for future efforts.
