Abstract:
The guidebook is structured as both a training manual with accompanying worksheets representing the different process steps that can be used in a classroom setting; and, as a framework for those MPAs actually going through a stakeholder-based management planning process. Laying the management planning process out in a guidebook suggests that these steps are sequential. In fact, most natural resource planning processes are organic in nature, unfolding in an opportunistic manner in which some steps may occur simultaneously, in a different order, or some steps may be eliminated altogether. As such, it is important to remember when using this guidebook to recognize what works best for each MPA setting, group of stakeholders, capacity of the MPA, and ultimately what is realistic when it comes to implementation of the plan"--Introduction.
