Presents an approach for assessing management effectiveness in marine protected areas in the Western Indian Ocean that is based on a workbook and methodology developed for World Heritage sites and a framework devised by the World Commission on Protected Areas Management Effectiveness Task Force. This report provides the results of testing the adapted workbook at eight pilot MPA sites in three countries, viz., Kenya, Tanzania and the Seychelles.
