Abstract:
"In Chuuk State of the Federated States of Micronesia PIMPAC, TNC and Rare Micronesia combined resources and efforts to increase enforcement capacity from October 29 to November 02, 2017. Mr. Wayne Andrew and Angel Jonathan as PIMPAC Regional Mentors coordinated with Mr. Michael Guilbeaux with Rare Micronesia an enforcement workshop that included planning and basic enforcement skill refresher that was held on Parem Island. This workshop included representatives from four communities (Uman, Faichuuk, Fefen, and Parem). A total of 23 participants from the four communities who were either municipal police officers or community conservation officers whom are volunteers where trained. The training covered topics includes: developing Enforcement Standard Operating Procedures for communities, refresher skills on collecting field notes, logbook system and report writing, effective communications with partners and chain of command within teams, safe and tactical vessel boarding with safety mindset. The training also resulted in the completion of a draft enforcement operating procedures for sites to review improve and adopt, and draft assessment of training and equipment needs. The most note worthy accomplishment was the establishment of a network between all participants of the workshop declared in a statement signed by all members to maintain their effort to working together to share and learn from one another to accelerate their success in increasing enforcement capacity. All these efforts was led by our local partners including trainer from Marine Resources Mr. Chimres Teresio who was a who recently completed the Conservation Academy at the Guam Community College sponsored by PIMPAC and MCT. Chuuk Conservation Society provided much of leadership and coordination of the logistics, including local knowledge and translation to make the training effective."
