Abstract:
The purpose of this guide is to promote the conservation of coastal and marine resources by informing law enforcement officials about the biology and importance of these resources and the reason laws and regulations exist for their protection. This guide contains a brief description of marine and semiaquatic habitats found around USVI, areas where habitats are managed and protected by laws and other legal means, a brief description of managed species, contact information for agencies responsible for the protection of managed habitats and species, and a description of suggested procedures to follow during interventions. The suggested intervention procedures for law enforcement officers to follow when interacting with possible violators do not replace the laws and regulations and their requirements. When in doubt, refer to the complete, official copy of the law or regulation"--Introduction.
