Assessing coral reef resilience through improved vital rates measurements

Description:

Project Manager:
Thomas Oliver
Project Years:
2019
Project Summary:
The goal of this project is to operationalize repeat photomosaic surveys in order to develop robust approaches for modeling coral colony-level vital rates (growth, survival, and mortality). This involves conducting local field trials and statistical analyses to improve photomosaic survey design and characterize benthic community responses to bleaching, herbivory, and other disturbances.
Expected Outcome:
The expected outcome of this project is the development of a methodology for using repeated photomosaics to derive colony-level vital rates (i.e. growth, mortality, recruitment), to better understand coral demography in the face of management challenges.
Project Locations:
  • Hawaii
Project Category:
Climate Change
Project Status:
