Support for implementation of the NOAA/NMFS Ecosystem-based Fishery Management (EBFM) Roadmap Implementation Plan (RIP).

Description:

Project Manager:
Maria Lopez
Project Years:
2019
2020
2021
Project Summary:
The EBFM initiative is a national process to implement a more holistic approach to management of living marine resources. The Caribbean Fishery Management Council is working with NMFS and other NOAA and non-NOAA partners to develop an EBFM management plan for the U.S. Caribbean region. Essential first steps in that process include an engagement strategy and creation of a Fishery Ecosystem Plan (FEP). As part of the engagement strategy, and in support of FEP development, annual in-person meetings are held at the Southeast Regional Office in St. Petersburg. Funds are requested to provide travel and other logistical support for these annual meetings, as well as to purchase analytical software and other supplies needed to support the team.
Expected Outcome:
This project supports meetings of the Caribbean Council/NMFS SERO EBFM planning team. That team will provide guidance to the Council's District Advisory Panels and Scientific and Statistical Committee regarding their contributions to development of an EBFM approach in the region. The planning team will consolidate outcomes from those groups, the Council, and NMFS with stand-alone analyses and determinations developed by the planning team in an effort to implement the EBFM implementation plan.
