Abstract:
Provides synthesis of existing information on the enforcement of U.S. marine protected areas (MPAs), discusses current institutional arrangements for MPA enforcement, highlights issues in MPA-related case law, examines perspectives on MPA enforcement and compliance issues by coastal and marine resource managers, enforcement agencies, and other public and private stakeholders, and presents recommendations for effective enforcement of U.S. MPAs. Includes case studies on Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, Channel Islands marine protected areas, and Oculina Bank Habitat Area of Particular Concern/Oculina Experimental Closed Area.
