Abstract:
Narrated documentary on oceanographic voyage of the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey ship Explorer (CSS 28). It tracks the ship's cruise from Seattle, Washington, during winter of 1960, through San Diego, California, Panama Channel, Caribbean Area, Key West, Florida, Northern Virginia, to its final destination in Potomac River, Washington, D.C., on April 20th, 1960. Film presents some onboard oceanographic research activities, including bottle launching, sediment coring, chemical analysis, hydrographic data collection, meteorological balloon release, and coral reef observations.
