Abstract:
"7,593 corals were outplanted to 15 different reef sites around Puerto Rico in 2020 through a combination of outplanting from coral nurseries and harvesting cuttings (direct outplanting) from previous A. palmata outplants. Monitoring was conducted within nurseries to inform adaptive management to maximize efficiency. Monitoring implemented at previous outplanting restoration sites including setting up photomosaics and tagging individual corals. Nursery capacity was decreased from 12,000 to 7,000 corals because of the high maintenance required. Genetic sampling to date has identified 125 different genotypes in the nurseries and at least 42 different A. palmata genotypes at HMO cutting sites with 100 more samples to be processed during 2021."
