Downscaling reef resilience

Description:

Project Manager:
Thomas Oliver
Project Years:
2019
2020
2021
Project Summary:
While the National Coral Monitoring Program (NCRMP) was designed for georegion (island-scale), management is often occurring at much smaller spatial scales. By reducing the spatial scale at which we can explore the temporal data collected over a decade of monitoring in the Pacific, we can better explore change in coral communities through time as well as the environmental drivers of that variability. This project will report on this downscaling approach -- a quantitative examination sub-georegion scale reef fish, benthic, invertebrate, and environmental data sets to improve understanding of spatio-temporal trends.
Expected Outcome:
Our expected outcome of this project is a well-reviewed statistical methodology to support responsible down-scaling of NCRMP data, and a report summarizing said methodology, and reporting on general trends in the NCRMP data as revealed by these method.
Project Locations:
  • American Samoa
  • Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands
  • Guam
  • Northwestern Hawaiian Islands
  • Hawaii
  • Pacific Remote Island Areas
