Development of Best Management Practices guidance for coral restoration monitoring

Project Summary:
This project will synthesize and build on existing coral monitoring for restoration, develop a guidance document, field test the methodology with post-hurricane restoration monitoring, and synthesize survey data from October 2016 coral impacts survey in FKNMS after Hurricane Irma. This BMP will be written to span a wide variety of approaches and capacity: from scientific approaches to local practitioners. As part of this project, NCCOS will also identify known gaps and recommendations for future development in restoration monitoring.
Expected Outcome:
Outcomes of this project will be increased communication and coordination across coral restoration practitioners, scientists, and managers across the Caribbean basis regarding monitoring coral restorations, applying success metrics as related to purpose of restoration, and application of ecological techniques (e.g. remote sensing) for scaling up coral restorations and determination of success.
